The National Medical Commission Bill, 2017 was moved in the house in December 2017 by the Central Government. This Bill allowed the Ayurvedic and Homeopathic doctors to be allowed to practice allopathy after clearing a bridge course after BHMS. The National Medical Commission Bill, 2017, sought to replace the existing apex medical education regulator, the Medical Council of India (MCI), with a new body but there was tremendous resistance to this move by the Government.
A governmental panel had been entrusted to review the new National Medical Commission Bill on healthcare in India.
Finally, it advised the management to scrap its proposal for a bridge course after BHMS to allow AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) practitioners practice Allopathy.
Despite release the bridge course, the states were given the choice regarding the matter. Many states have already allowed AYUSH doctors arranged in Primary Health Centre in rural areas to practice allopathy during ‘emergencies’.
Candidates can either work or opt for the higher education in Homeopathy and the allied areas. Mentioned below are some of the areas in which higher studies can be done after BHMS course:
